“Simplicity is not the absence of clutter, that’s a consequence of simplicity. Simplicity is somehow essentially describing the purpose and place of an object and product. The absence of clutter is just a clutter-free product. That’s not simple.”—Jonathan Ive im Interview mit The Telegraph (via telonaes)
“That’s precisely what a tool is: something which requires very little explanation for how to use it, because it is designed so precisely for its purpose, that how to use it is obvious. If you’re trying to dig a hole with your hands, you don’t need much explanation for how to use a shovel.”—The New Interface Is There Is No interface — tightwind.net — Readability
“Our goal is simple objects, objects that you can’t imagine any other way. Simplicity is not the absence of clutter. Get it right, and you become closer and more focused on the object.”—Sir Jonathan Ive — www.thisislondon.co.uk
Just the other day we watched a family video I edited in iMovie like two years ago. Such great memories!
I probably never would have gotten into video editing without my Mac and a cool application named iMovie. Yes, they are just tools. You still need some taste and skills. However they provide a great environment for me to be creative … and also to share the outcome with family, friends and people following what we are doing.
This is just one example where I realize the influence of a man, who God greatly gifted.
Not only Apple but the whole community built around it is dedicated to making stuff which not only helps you to get the job done. They are making it easy and fun and thats why I love to use them. I even got involved in the development of some…
But its not only about the products. Especially these days as many are sharing Steve’s Stanford Commencement he is another great reminder to make good use of my time.
Thank God for men like Steve Jobs!
P.S.: Here are some related stories, articles and quotes which I collected:
“Wasting time poorly is a sin, because not only are you forgoing the productivity, generosity and art that comes from work, but you’re also giving up the downtime, experimentation and joy that comes from wasting time.”—Seth Godin (via putitperfectly)
